PATRICK DIONNE AND MIKI GINGRAS IN A CREATION RESIDENCY

PATRICK DIONNE AND MIKI GINGRAS IN A CREATION RESIDENCY

Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie is welcoming photographers Patrick Dionne and Miki Gingras from October 6 to 12 for a creation residency.

Taking their inspiration from the people they meet and from pictures taken now as well as in the spring of 2016 during phase II of their residency, they will create a permanent photographic work that will be unveiled at festivities marking the 250th anniversary of the town in 2017.

Living and working in Montreal, Patrick Dionne and Miki Gingras join their efforts in producing photographic works that inspire and bear witness to social realities. They use a computer to manipulate images in order to create subjective worlds that highlight the narrative dimension of the photographic image. Both from the technical and interpersonal points of view they raise questions about the objectivity of the documentary as well as about the photographic medium’s relationship to reality.

In the summer of 2014 they created the installation Story Gatherers, presented during the 2014 and 2015 editions of Rencontres de la photo at Île-Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Percé National Park (Percé). In 2015 they received residency grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec in Colombia and Mexico.

This project has been possible thanks to the support of Carleton-sur-mer municipality.
